Big Ideas: Ray Bradbury
We need not to be let alone. We need to
be really bothered once in a while. How long is it since you were really bothered?
About something important, about something real? [Ray
Bradbury]
from his 1953
novel, Fahrenheit 451 |
I love this quote. So much of the time in our society we feel like we should be happy and if we aren't, well, we must be doing something wrong. To feel anger, sadness, outrage is clearly displeasing a god somewhere. Or maybe feeling "bothered" and trying to take a stand feels like we are being disloyal to family, friends, co-workers, etc. making them feel uncomfortable, rocking the boat. In reality there is plenty to be outraged by. Plenty to be at peace with as well, embraced and enjoyed; but, there is much going on in our world that we just shouldn't be ok with.
